| Fukumoto Takudo started his studies of the shakuhachi back in 1971 under the surveillance of SAKAI Chikuho (born 1933) who is the head of the CHIKUHO-ryu,a traditional shakuhachi-school based in Osaka. Just 2years later he united with some of the other students of SAKAI chikuho to form the musical cast Kaze no Kai(The 'Group of the wind') whose main objective was to revive the spirit of the old Fuke-Zen -Buddhism tradition. Bsides playing the classic HONKYOKU solo pieces for shakuhachi,FUKUMOTO tries to create a new contemporary,freely improvised style of music which is inspired by the Zen-Buddhists tradition.This also meant having to cooperate with artists from different backgrounds of music,dancing,theatre,recitation and painting. Between 1981 and 1991 FUKUMOTO was the music director of the avantgarde Buto-dance ensemble Byakkosha. In 1983 he succesfully past the prestigious NHK Audition for Traditional Japanese Musical Instruments.

In 1983 he released an LP of traditional HONKYOKU together with Kaze no Kai.In 1992 he released a CD titled Ryusa('Flowing Sand') with recordings of his shakuhachi playing accompanied by a synthesizer.In 1997 he released a CD titled SHAKUHACHI (all shakuhachi perfomed by FUKUMOTO Takudo) from Traurige Tropen/Germany. |
