Tourist Spots in Maputo
Tourist spots in Maputo are Fort, Revolution Square, Statues,
Central Station, Central Market, Iron House designed by Eiffel, Hindi
district, Revolution Museum, fish market, among others. As a heritage
of socialist regime from 1975 to 1994, streets are named famous
socialist figures such as Karl Marx, which are spectacular. It is
worth visiting "Nucleo
de Arte", the house of unique exhibition of symbolic objects
for peace, made from arms collected by residents who accepted to
exchange them for fly pans, bicycles, etc.
- Nucleo de Arte (Art Center)
What impressed me most in Maputo was Nucleo de Arte (Art Center).
Entrance Fee was free when I visited there in July 2002. You may see a
great number of objects exposed in sporadic manner and artists
vigorously creating objects. "Arms into Art" - Arms once used for
battle are being made into Art in this place.
Later I knew that this activity has been based on a kind of social
movement called "Arms into Hoes", organized by a Christian NGO
group "CCM".

- Statue of Samora Machel
The Statue of Samora Machel, Leader of Independence, is
allocated in the very center of the city (next to the Cathedral),
worshipped as the Hero of the Nation.

You can go by ferryboat to Catembe, or "Maputo's
Manhattan". Some people get on the ferryboat with a bunch of live
hens on their hands.
