Prince and Princess Takamatsu, and Prince and princess Mikasa
at the National Theater for the first domestic performance.

The Japan Folkloric Art Dance Troupe was inaugurated in 1963, when the Ministry of Education provided subsidies to upgrade folkloric art to stage art. To make folkloric art performances viewed and appreciated in the world, a production committee was formed with 150 members drawn from dancers, stage artists, leading musicians, producers and academics. The Japan Folkloric Art Dance Troupe consisting of professional dancers and musicians was dispatched abroad 20 times performing in 154 cities in 49 countries. The Troupe collaborated with 130 local governments in their cultural events in Japan.
